Advanced Search

InformationThe [Advanced Search] menu option is not available by default. In order to turn on this feature, select the 'Display Advanced Search' option in the 'Client Information' section of the [Lookup Manager].

The [Advanced Search] menu option allows reader to access a more comprehensive search system - useful if they have specific ideas of what they need in the catalogue rather than general words or phrases.

The Advanced Search system starts with a single row of drop-down controls allowing the reader to select the database catalogue field that they with to search and the type of comparison to be made, followed by a text field to enter the criteria.

At this time, reader can search (though some of these are not available within the Pergamon Mu release of software):

  • Title
  • Contributor (e.g. Author)
  • Publisher
  • Series
  • Category
  • Keyword
  • Language
  • Subject
  • Location
  • Audience

Readers are permitted to compare these fields using:

  • contains - the criteria is anywhere in the field selected.
  • equals - the criteria is an exact match.
  • does not equal - the field is NOT the criteria entered.
  • begins with - the field starts with the criteria entered.
  • ends with - the field ends with the criteria entered.

Three command buttons are available beneath the criteria:

  • Search - Starts the search using the criteria entered.
  • [+] - Adds another row so that more criteria can be entered, including a drop-down to select whether the combination should be used in a logical AND or OR manner.
  • [-] - Removed the last criteria row from the list.

Any results from the search are displayed below the criteria box.
