====== Updating Projects ======

{{:lostplot:manual:toolbar_0004.jpg?nolink&50 |}}In order to update an existing project in the database, select the [Update] toolbar button.

If the project has not been previously saved, you will be prompted for a project name before saving.

It is greatly advised however, to utilise the auto-save features in order to ensure that the application regularly saves changes to your project without manual intervention - once an author is engrossed in development of a project, it is very easy to forget to save!

==== Auto Save ====

{{ :lostplot:manual:toolbar_0006.jpg?nolink&100|}}Any change to a project configuration setting (such as split screen, document mode etc.) is updated in the project database record immediately. In regards to authored content however, there are two levels of auto-save available:

  - Auto-save cards
  - Auto-save content

=== Auto Save Cards ===

In order to turn on auto-saving of projects, click the auto save [Card] toolbar button. In this case, the //entire// card set is updated in the database when any changes are made to index cards or the overall project configuration.

=== Auto Save Content ===

A slightly reduced level of auto-saving ensures that any changes to //content// are updated in the database as it is edited, and can be enabled by clicking the auto-save [Content] toolbar icon. This is particularly useful when using the __Writer__, as the index card content being edited will be updated every 5 seconds when a change has been made during typing, ensuring that communications failures will result in the very smallest amount of data loss.

While this level of auto save is advised once document authoring has started, it should be remembered that other changes to the project should be updated manually using the [Update] toolbar icon.
