Editing Card Details

In order to edit card details, click the [☰] icon on the card required to display the Details Manager Dialog.

The Details dialog allows you to select values from the [Environment], [Lighting] and [Location] drop-down menus, as well as a primitive editing of the Content field. While quick-edits of the Content field can be performed here, it is recommended to use a full Writer dialog for serious authoring of the final document.

The Details Dialog respects the Auto-Save options and will ensure that any changes are made in the database if they are turned on.

Environment Settings

The Environment settings provided by [Environment], [Lighting] and [Location] are combined and displayed on the index card to give a reminder of the location in which the card is taking place. It is based on standard screenwriting convention purely for convenience and does not need to be used.

The [Environment] and [Lighting] drop-down menus provide initial access to standard settings often used in screenwriting. These are for [Environment]:

  • INT. (interior)
  • EXT. (exterior)

and for [Lighting]:

  • DAY
  • NIGHT
  • EVENING
  • MIDDAY
  • EARLY EVE.
  • LATE EVE.
  • EARLY MORN.
  • LATE MORN.
  • DARK
  • LIGHT

By definition that any new project is from the mind of the author, no initial locations are provided.

All three of the Environment drop-downs can be used in a typing manner - enter the field and start to type. If the typed text matches an existing entry it will be used. If the typed text does not match an existing entry, the new text is attached to the card and written into the database for future use by this project (i.e. it is not generally available in all projects). it is in this manner for example, that locations for the project are gradually built.

Card Type

The Card Type selection is usually left as [Default] for the majority of Index Cards created in a project. At time however, it is useful to change the card type to another common form so that it can be correctly formatted within the final Document.

The full list of card types are:

  • Introduction
  • Contents
  • Default (Body Text)
  • References
  • Appendix
  • Index

Tools

Basic tools are provided at the base of the dialog in order to assist in the import of text (e.g. cut-and-paste) from other documents, such as PDFs and Word Processed files. These tools include:

  • [ ⇤ ] - Remove white space prefixing paragraphs that may have been added by the display of other documents and carried across in the cut-and-paste.
  • [ ℙ ] - Correctly insert paragraph spaces in the MardDown / Fountain standard (an additional newline between each written paragraph).
  • [ ❞ ] - Start a MarkDown enable comment management dialog which allows additional text to be added to the card, externally to the standard card fields. Comments are usually used for additional notes, references etc. and each can have their own information titles.
