The [Language Manager] is a utility dialog intended only for:

• Esferico staff to manage the core language system
• Users in a unique and fully non-English environment
• Users in a unique industry environment requiring specialist modifications to core language phrases.

The [Language Manager] allows suitably authorised staff users to create local definitions of core language words and phrases, altering how buttons, messages, menus etc. are displayed within Mystic locally.

Note: Local definitions are overlaid on top of the core default phrases belonging to each unique code. This editor provide facilities to create, remove and modify these local phrases and will never be able to delete the underlying core phrases.

As with most Mystic managerial dialogs, a listing of available language phrases is shown on the left hand side of the manager. When an entry in this list is selected, the details of that phrase are displayed on the right hand side.

The top of these details shows core information about that phrase - information which will not change between language options such as the unique code which references that phrase from within Mystic, and comments on how the phrase is used.

At the bottom of the details section is a list of the phrases as they will appear in the different language options. Each phrase will always have a <Default> entry and is the phrase which will be displayed if there is no other option superseding it. This default phrase can also be regarded as the core English option, allowing for the fact that Mystic is a UK developed software application developed for library use.

While spoken language variants will typically add options for all phrases in the list, industry variants may not. As some uses of the language editor is to create unique modifications to key phrases, this list of available options may not necessarily contain additional entries in all phrases available - only those requiring specific alterations.

To create a new phrase, click the [Create] button in the toolbar. Complete at least the unique key that will be used by Mystic (regardless of the actual human readable phrase) and the default phrase before clicking [Update] to save the changes.

Note that unless Mystic is aware of the key, new entries are redundant. As a result, creation of new entries is typically performed only by Esferico staff.

In order to remove an existing phrase, select the phrase in the list and click the [Remove] button in the toolbar.

Note that this process is typically only be used by Esferico staff.

In order to add a new variant of a specific phrase, select the phrase required from the list of phrases to display its details.

In the list of available variants (which may initially only include <default>), click the [+] symbol to select the 'language' for the new variant. The drop-down list provided includes only those languages that have been configured in the [Item Languages] group in the Lookup Manager, but may include named variants that have been specifically created for a unique industry (e.g. English: Museum Antiquities Terminology).

On selecting the required 'language', a new entry is created in the list of variants using the default phrase as a base, but also marking it clearly to indicate that it has not been edited.

Click the new phrase to display the phrase in the editing field, modify it as required then click [Update] to ensure that the change is saved into the database.

If a variant is not required, select the variant phrase then click [-] to remove it from the screen. The change will not be made permanent until you click [Update] to save the changes into the database.

Note that you can not remove the default phrase from the list. While the default phrase is stored elsewhere and can not be deleted from the database, the default phrase is required here so that users creating new variants understand what the base intent of the phrase is meant to be. Default phrases shown in this list do not use space in the database.
