Pergamon HUB

The Pergamon HUB is a common area that is intended to be shared by all users of the Pergamon product range. It includes a shared database, support reporting system and communications portal.

For desktop users, the Pergamon HUB currently has a product known as 'Pergamon HUB Local', which takes the form of an encrypted bibliographic database of items that can be used as a source of records for your local cataloguing - use of the HUB greatly increases your cataloguing through-put.

To use the Pergamon HUB Local, follow these instructions:

Initial Configuration of HUB

Note that this configuration is standard from v1.2.0 (Copernicus) onwards, and therefore will probably not need to be performed.

  • Login as an administrative user and navigate to [Manager Menu] > Tools > Lookup Manager
  • Scroll down in the left-hand list until you find the category called 'System HUB', then open the category.
  • Select the entry called 'HUB Database: Local'
  • On the right hand side, check the tick-box marked 'Search?' (Search thus HUB database)
  • In the [Value 1] field, enter the name of the pergamon HUB data file - 'pergamonhub-local' (do not include any paths, or the .sqlite suffix)
  • Update the record.

At this time, do not alter the record marked 'HUB Database: Cloud'.

Searching the HUB in the Item Manager

In order to use the HUB in the Item Manager to auto-populate item fields with known information:

  • Login to your user account and enter the Item Manager.
  • Select the [Info] toolbar menu, then select [Options] > [Search HUB for item data] to enable the HUB search feature. Note that this is a user level option (it must be set for each user, individually) but is persistent - once turned on, it will remain on across sessions, until consciously turned off.
  • Create a new book
  • Scan the ISBN of the item into the ISBN field and [TAB] on as if you were about to enter the remaining details - this will initiate the search.
  • If an item is found in the HUB and no other duplications features (see below) are in use, the data from the record will populate the catalogue record on screen. Edit or add to the available data (if required) and select [Update Item] to save the new record into the database as normal.
  • If other duplication methods are in use, any record found in the HUB will be displayed in a context sensitive menu along with the other options (e.g. the last item catalogued). Either press [Esc] to abort this menu, or use your cursor keys to move up and down the menu to select the option that you require, then press [Return] to select it (the HUB record is always the first, so you can just press [Return] immediately, if required).

Search the HUB generally

It order to perform more general searches of the HUB database, and possibly use the general search results to create item records:

  • Login as your user then navigate to [Manger] > [Search for…] > [HUB Items].
  • Enter your search criteria into the search fields, in the same way that you search for catalogued items or readers, then select [Search]
  • If required, select an items from the results to display a quick summary of it's contents.
  • If required, select [Create] (only visible once an individual item has been selected)
